BOURBON OLD FASHIONED
I don’t want to get into a fight on this one so I will defer to Anders Erikson (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pdcrJ5V7YKM) who says a whisky old fashioned is the original but he means bourbon (have i just started another fight?). For the records Diffords agrees - https://www.diffordsguide.com/en-au/cocktails/recipe/1427/old-fashioned-cocktail-diffords-recipe but they use a mixture of bourbon and rye.
INGREDIENTS
2 shots bourbon (or rye)
1 small piece of orange
1/4 shot of rich sugar syrup (or use two small sugar cubes)
4 dashes Angostura Bitters
1 cocktail cherry (optional)
Preparation
Fill a mixing glass with ice and add the ingredients.
Stir until it slightly chilled
Strain the mixture into an old fashioned glass with a big ice cube and garnish with orange zest and add the cherry.
MY THoughts
I recommend playing with the sugar and the bitters. I also love using dehydrated orange in the drink itself.
